About the Event
Overall health and wellness continues to be a struggle for police officers in New Castle County, Delaware. Financial struggles, mental trauma, and physical health complications, all continue to take a toll on first responders across the country. For example:
· In 2021, over 153 law enforcement deaths nationwide were verified to be suicide
· On average, police officers can be exposed to upward of 900 traumatic events
· Heart attacks account for up to 10% of all line of duty deaths for law enforcement officers
· Financial stress can make a police officer up to twenty times more likely to attempt suicide
Locally, we are no different. The Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge 5, the police union representing officers within New Castle County, is looking to reverse this trend.
